Budget Committee Set to Hold Last Meeting as Deliberations Ended

The ministerial committee tasked with studying the 2018 draft budget has finished examining all the items included in it, as it is set to hold one last meeting before putting the budget on the Cabinet's table early next week for final approval.

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said that the committee, headed by Prime Minister Saad Hariri, will convene again on Sunday to make a final reading of the amendments that still have to be introduced to the draft budget before the Cabinet session, which will likely be held either on Monday or Tuesday.

The minister stressed the need for a plan to reduce the public debt and control the state's expenditures, saying that the country will keep on facing challenges if no vision is articulated to deal with these issues.

"However, I don't see any reason for political forces not to approve the budget," Khalil said.
