The first time I met Jared Kushner, I told him that I wish my father-in-law had as much confidence in me as his had in him because he had given him a mission impossible. He laughed and acknowledged that it was hard, but his father in-law saw Israeli-Palestinian peace as a critical issue, and now was the time to tackle it.
It’s an undeniably bold idea. And given the multiple diplomatic failures of the past quarter-century, its logic is clear. Yet so is the risk that it, too, will fail, adding fuel to one of the most combustible regions on earth and ending the prospect of negotiated peace altogether.
