The power-generating barge, which was deployed to Lebanon as part of the Energy Ministry's plan to help the long-ailing power sector, was prevented from entering the premises of the Jiyeh power plant where it was supposed to dock. According to the National News Agency, competent authorities informed the vessel crew that no permit has been granted for the barge to access the plant.

Lebanon could license the construction of nearly 380 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy plants as early as this summer, a Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) official tells Executive. This would mean a rise in generation capacity of just over 20 percent — a far cry from satisfying the country’s demand for power.
