Ministry of Energy Takes Advantage of Political Instability to Resume High-Voltage Power Lines Project

The Ministry of Energy has apparently taken advantage of the current political crisis to pursue works for the high-voltage power lines project in the Metn are of Mansourieh-Ain Saadeh.

Environmental activist Raja Njeim told the Kataeb website that the agreement reached between Energy Minister Cezar Abi Khalil and the Archdiocese of Beirut had stipulated that all equipment would be removed from the area located near the Sagesse High School and that cables would be re-installed for public safety while halting all works until a solution is devised after the parliamentary elections.

“Two days ago, we were shocked to see that equipment were taken back to the works site and that cables were connected to pole number 8," he said, adding that the contractor assigned by Electricite du Liban was seen today supervising the work at pole number 7.

Njeim deplored that Beirut's Maronite Bishop Boulos Matar was deceived as the resumption of works proves that the agreement was a mere sham.
