Government Approves More Extra-Budgetary Spending

The government convened on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun at the Baabda Palace, approving several extra-budgetary spendings as it was agreed to keep on making disbursements based on the 2017 budget until that of the year 2018 is endorsed.

At the beginning of the session, President Aoun said that contacts are ongoing to curb Israeli greed, saying that Lebanon will confront any assault targeting its lands and territorial waters.

During the meeting, Information Minister Melhem Riachi suggested that media workers would vote with government employees on May 3rd so that they would be able to cover the elections on May 6 without having to abandon their right to vote.

A ministerial committee headed by Prime Minister Saad Hariri was also formed to study a plan to expand Beirut’s Airport, and gave the green light to start executing an “urgent” phase of rehabilitation at an estimated cost of $200 million.
