Cabinet Endorses Lebanon’s First Wind Farms

Permits for Lebanon’s first large-scale wind farms were approved in a Cabinet session Wednesday, marking a significant step in the growth of the country’s expanding renewable energy sector.

“It’s a historical moment,” Pierre al-Khoury, general director of the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation, told The Daily Star in a recent interview.

The project, which will see three wind farms with a potential output of 300 megawatts built in the northeastern Akkar region, has been in the works since 2012.
