One man was killed in armed clashes that erupted on Tuesday between supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party and others affiliated to the Lebanese Democratic Party in Choueifat.

According to Al-Jadeed TV channel, PSP partisan Alaa Abu Faraj was killed when an RPG missile hit the vicinity of the party's center in Choueifat after tensions had mounted against the backdrop of the parliamentary elections which were held on Sunday.

PSP leader Walid Jumblat and Lebanese Democratic Party head Talal Erslan issued a joint statement calling on their supporters to opt for self-restraint in order to prevent the situation from turning sour.

The two Druze leaders stressed that the parliamentary elections are now over and that nothing should disrupt stability in the area despite political differences.
